What is Coaching?

In many aspects, a coach forms a partnership with a client to explore, articulate, and map a course to achieve their goals. Some instances require extensive 1:1 time. Others can be conducted in a group setting with people of similar goals and backgrounds. Depending on the client’s need, sessions can last from 30 to 90 minutes through several forms of communication and check-ins. Coaching can stem from several different needs depending on what type of outcome the person wants in their life.

Though these needs can vary, people typically outsource a professional coach in the hopes of changing their lives for long-term results. The events that occur can be a transitional work change that affects their career or the desire to change careers altogether. On a personal side, they may need a business coach to help them shift their focus and energy towards a positive outlook. Many people find it hard to minimize the noise that plagues their minds, and a coach can be precisely what they need to help guide them towards a life of growth and clarity.

With everything that has transpired in recent events, people have completely lost what they believed was their passion and now have to determine the new chapter in their life. These are all incredibly delicate scenarios that deserve undivided attention. Often, people who are in these positions seek out psychological assistance in hopes to then find solutions on their own. Although those resources are beneficial for past experiences, they do not paint a clear picture of what you need to be doing with your present time to develop your future career goals.

The coach and client work as a team to firmly choose objectives and steps to be proactive in achieving those objectives that will propel them to the level they want to reach. Through a series of thought-provoking questions, challenging assumptions, and ultimately being there to cheer you on in this empowering journey, they support personal accountability and want nothing more than to see you win.

If the quality of the result matters most (e.g., a full and detailed report needs to be created), coaching for high awareness and responsibility is likely to deliver the most.

If maximizing the learning is predominant (e.g., a person doing something for the first time), clearly coaching will optimize learning and its retention.

If buy-in and real commitment are necessary (e.g., implementing a service improvement), then coaching creates the possibility of this much more than telling, which is likely to achieve compliance, resistance, and a lack of ownership.

If engagement and retention are important (e.g., high potentials, Millennials), then coaching is the most effective approach to align individuals’ wants, needs, and expectations with the organization’s mission, thus creating meaning and purpose for people at work.

We track goals by creating key performance metrics (KPIs) that make the journey to reaching them very transparent. We are there to keep track and measure the progress that someone might avoid recording if they are on their own. When the journey is transparent, it makes the person that is in charge of reaching them very accountable.

Coaching is a powerful tool to help business and social leaders at all levels leverage the leadership skills within themselves to maximize performance. It helps you increase awareness through practice and straightforward feedback. You’ll sharpen your inherent leadership skills to better motivate teams and deliver specific personal, professional, and organizational goals.

Coaches keep individuals on their toes and make sure that they are hitting the important goals they need to achieve in order to realize success. These coaches keep you from stagnating. The last thing that an individual needs, is to find themselves in exactly the same spot in six months. Coaches move the process along so individuals can see results and also provide good insights into what the future holds. A coach's sole job is to get the client where they want and need to be.
